Micro Phlebectomy
Also known as vein removal is a surgical procedure that allows the removal of short segments of varicose veins through tiny puncture sites.
Micro-Phlebectomy (Vein Removal) is a minimally invasive surgical procedure in which portions of varicose veins are removed through tiny incisions. The incisions are so small, in fact, that no stitches are required. The procedure is performed under a local anesthetic, often with sedation.
Microphlebectomy is a procedure that was developed by a Swiss Dermatologist to remove large ropy surface varicose veins. It is often used in conjunction with Endovenous Laser or Radiofrequency. This procedure involves removing the varicose vein through tiny puncture sites usually no larger than 1-2 millimeters in diameter. This is not considered vein stripping. There are no sutures (stitches) required and the cosmetic results are excellent.
Prior to treatment a physical examination is done and a complete vein history is taken by Dr. Bailey. An ultrasound study of the veins in question may or may not be ordered depending on their size, their location, any previous treatments that might have been done and other factors. Based on the physical examination and any test results, your surgeon may recommend you have a microphlebectomy.
