For glowing, youthful, smooth skin, try a skin resurfacing procedure!
Many men and women who want to look their best are turning to minimally invasive skin resurfacing procedures. These treatments can even out skin tone, reduce the appearance of scars, and give you a more youthful appearance.
Skin resurfacing procedures include a variety of techniques that reduce fine lines and wrinkles, make your pores smaller, lighten skin discolorations, and decrease the appearance of scars. These results are achieved by exfoliating the top layers of skin and allowing the newer, fresher layers of skin to show through. Some of these procedures also stimulate your body's natural collagen production, filling in the areas where there are wrinkles or scar indentations.
During your consultation, Dr. Stover will ask you what you wish to accomplish and will discuss the various options with you. He will recommend one or more procedures to achieve the results you want. He may ask you to use a special cream or gel to prepare for your procedure, and in some cases, he may prescribe an antibiotic as a precaution against infections.
After your treatment, you may be given an ointment to apply to your skin. In most cases, you will experience some redness, swelling, and crusting for a few days after your procedure. This is part of the natural healing process as the new, refreshed layer of skin becomes visible.
Prior to most of these procedures, a topical anesthetic is applied to your skin to reduce your discomfort. If you are very sensitive, a local anesthetic or intravenous sedation can be used, but most patients report that the discomfort during skin resurfacing is minimal.
Skin resurfacing procedures can last from a few minutes to two hours. This depends upon the amount of skin that needs treatment, as well as the type of procedure used. In some cases, you may require more than one treatment to achieve your desired result.
The outcome of your skin resurfacing treatment may last months or even years, depending on a number of factors. Dr. Stover will tell you what you can expect in your particular case.
Chemical peels utilize a chemical solution to remove the outermost layers of your skin and smooth your skin's texture. These are especially effective in decreasing the size of your pores, removing acne, and improving uneven pigmentation, but they also reduce the appearance of wrinkles. There are several different types of peels from superficial to deep.
Microdermabrasion is a gentle skin resurfacing procedure that may be recommended for you. It can do everything that a chemical peel can do, while also improving the appearance of mild scarring. It is an especially comfortable procedure with no downtime.
IPL Photofacial is a type of skin resurfacing that utilizes light-emission therapy. The intense pulses of light reduce the appearance of freckles, sun damage, and age spots. IPL can also decrease redness, including rosacea. Dr. Stover uses two different IPL lasers, which offers you the best possible result.
Fraxel is another minimally invasive laser treatment that has pinpoint focus on the exact areas that need attention. It minimizes acne scars, smoothes the texture of your skin, makes your pores smaller, and evens out skin tone.
Dermasound Elite Facial Treatment is especially good for people with sensitive skin. It utilizes low frequency sound waves and water to exfoliate the top layers of skin. Treatments are applied afterward to aid in the healing process.
Active FX, Deep FX, and Total FX – These revolutionary laser treatments can tighten the skin, even out skin tone, smooth your skin's texture, reduce deep wrinkles and fine lines, and decrease scars. Total FX is a combination treatment of Deep FX, which targets the deeper layers of skin, and Active FX, which targets the outer layers of skin.
The team at Cosmetic Centers of Hawaii is experienced with all of these procedures and is available to answer any questions you may have.
