Cosmetic lasers provide safe, effective and long-lasting solutions to common skin conditions including redness, scarring, rosacea, age spots, excessive pigmentation, unwanted hair, spider veins, uneven skin tone and large pores. Dr. Stover uses only the most advanced laser equipment in the cosmetic surgery industry, and is able to treat most varieties of skin type, hair colors and pigmentations.

What Are Cosmetic Lasers?

There are two main types of cosmetic lasers—those that remove the upper layers of damaged skin ('ablative lasers') and those that reach problem areas without having to remove any upper layers ('non-ablative lasers'). Cosmetic lasers are as safe to use as those found inside DVD players.

Lasers amplify and direct specific photons of light, or wavelength, toward a specific treatment area. Different types of lasers produce different types of light, so a variety of lasers must be used to treat different skin conditions and hair colors. A laser is effective when it is in sync, or tuned, to the color of the target area. To remove brown age spots, for example, requires a laser tuned to a color that is different from the one used to remove unsightly red capillaries. Regardless of the laser type, patients benefit from noticeable, permanent results, with very few side effects and little to no downtime from regular activities.

What Can I Expect?

During your consultation, Dr. Stover will examine your skin and ask about your medical history. Once a diagnosis is made, Dr. Stover will recommend a treatment plan based on your particular skin condition. With the widest selection of cosmetic lasers available, Dr. Stover is the only cosmetic surgeon in Hawaii capable of providing a customized laser treatment plan based on your unique skin condition and hair type. In some cases, multiple lasers will be used to maximize the results of your treatment.

Cosmetic Laser Therapies

Dr. Stover offers the most extensive variety of cosmetic laser treatments in the state of Hawaii:

Fraxel Restore - a semi-ablative laser that smoothes out skin, decreases pore size, reduces pigmentation and minimizes the appearance of acne scars.

IPL Photofacial - a light-emission therapy that uses intense pulses of light to reduce pigmentation such as age spots, sun damage, freckles and redness caused by many skin conditions, including rosacea. IPL is also used for the removal of spider veins. Dr.Stover has two different types of IPL lasers to choose from when recommending a treatment option.

Nd:YAG Laser - used to target tissue in the deeper layers of skin, leaving the top-most layers uninjured. The Nd:YAG is often used to address cosmetic skin problems such as unsightly veins and pigmentation problems, and is also used for the removal of unwanted hair.

Diode Laser - the only one on the Big Island. The diode laser produces a long wavelength of light to penetrate deep into the hair follicle without causing as much epidermal injury as some other lasers. The diode laser produces a longer wavelength of light and can treat a wide variety of hair colors and types. This laser can be also be used to successfully treat darker skin colors.

Alex TriVantage Laser – the preferred treatment for the removal of pigmented lesions and the treatment of tattoos of all colors. Because of its state-of-the-art energy delivery it emits a precise and uniform beam. Its multiple wavelength options can treat a much broader range of tattoo colors than most other systems. Other applications include removal of brown spots such as freckles, sun and age spots, and birthmarks as well as reducing scars.

Active FX—Fractional Carbon Dioxide (CO2) -for patients wanting fast, effective results. This laser treats deep wrinkles, acne scars, and the small lines around the lips and eyes. It is one of the newest and most advanced treatments for rejuvenating aging skin. Long-term results that can last for years with proper care.

Deep FX—Fractional Carbon Dioxide (CO2) - micro-beams precisely target the deep dermal layers of the skin to stimulate healing responses that lead to tissue regeneration and new collagen formation throughout the entire treatment area. Healing time requires just a few days because only a small fraction of the skin is affected. Improves wrinkles, scars and folds, noticeably improves skin tone and texture and stimulates new collagen formation and adds volume to the skin.
