What is Active FX?

A non-surgical laser procedure that can reduce scars and smooth away wrinkles and lines, Active FX is fast becoming a popular way for both men and women to rejuvenate the face. You may hear Active FX referred to as a skin tightening, non-surgical rejuvenation, facial rejuvenation, or skin resurfacing procedure. It is all of those things.

Active FX utilizes fractional CO2 micro-beams which are highly targeted on the treatment areas. As a result, the surrounding areas remain intact, speeding your healing process.

Active FX sets your body's natural healing response in motion, causing it to produce more collagen, which plumps and smoothes the skin where it is needed. This rejuvenation or resurfacing can treat fine lines, scarring, and even deeper wrinkles. Primarily used on the face, Active FX is also effective on the neck, chest, and hands and can be used to even out skin tone.

What Can I Expect from Active FX?

The treatment should take about one hour, and it is best to have someone available to drive you home so that you can relax afterward. Dr. Stover recommends intravenous sedation during Active FX. This ensures your comfort and optimizes the treatment.

Active FX is a moderately aggressive treatment, but it heals much faster than previously available procedures, requiring little downtime from work and other activities. You will be given instructions for post-procedure care to speed and ease your healing process. These might include the use of aloe vera, moisturizer, and/or sunblock.

You can expect to experience some minor discomfort, redness, and swelling for a few days to a week after your treatment, followed by some peeling of the skin. You will be able to see your results better after the peeling process has completed over a few days.

Your body continues to produce more collagen for three or four months after your procedure, so while you will see immediate results, your appearance will improve even more for a period of time. If you take good care of your skin, following Dr. Stover's instructions, the outcome of your Active FX treatment should last for multiple years.

Other Treatments Combined With Active FX

Active FX is often performed at the same time as a Deep FX treatment. These procedures are very similar, but Deep FX reaches a deeper layer of skin and is more often used to target specific deeper wrinkles or deep scars. Active FX is frequently then performed all over the face for a smoother appearance. This combination is called Total FX and can produce more satisfying results for many people.
