Eliminate a sagging brow, expression lines and restore a youthful, happy appearance.
Over time, the gradual loss of elasticity in the skin can lead to a drooping of the brow and deep expression lines across the forehead area. Contributing to this are the natural effects of aging which include the breakdown of collagen fibers under our skin. As we laugh, cry, worry or frown, our skin may begin to sag, causing us to look excessively old, sad or tired, not how we truly feel.
A forehead lift, also called a brow lift, is a cosmetic surgery that reduces the sagging areas in the forehead, eyebrows and above the eyelid area. The procedure helps to smooth deep lines that run across the brow or between the eyes. Forehead lifts also correct hooded eyelids, heavy eyebrows or excessive sagging, which may cause vision interference. Forehead procedures can also be used to lower the hairline for those who have an unnaturally high forehead or high hair line.
Forehead procedures work by lifting and removing excess skin and muscle located just above the eyebrows. The differences between procedures depend on how and where the incisions are made based on the severity of sagging, wrinkles and ultimate results desired. Surgical choices include a direct brow lift, a mid-forehead lift or a coronal forehead lift. Having an honest discussion with your doctor is important to achieving the results you desire.
In recent years, endoscopic techniques have made it possible to lift the brows and smooth forehead wrinkles with relatively small incisions that are made behind the hairline. Great care is made to ensure incision lines are hidden and scaring is kept minimal.
During a forehead lift, Dr. Stover will lift and smooth the browline and forehead area by gently lifting and removing a small amount of excess skin from the forehead area. Typically there are 4 small incisions in the scalp behind the hairline made such that no scars are visible. Sometimes, a small amount of muscle tissue may also be removed to help relax and smooth the forehead area. The procedure takes about one to two hours and is performed under sedation and local anesthesia. Depending on the type of procedure and results desired, recovery times can be anywhere from a few days to 10 days.
