Improve the balance of your facial features and the look of your overall profile.
A chin implant is a popular cosmetic procedure that defines and increases the size of a small or under-developed chin. It can also widen a chin, or add length to the face. When a chin is too small, the effect can be a nose that appears too long. Chin surgery helps make the chin more proportional to other facial features and creates a strong jawline. The procedure also greatly enhances the effects of a facelift, or facial liposuction.
A chin augmentation, or genioplasty, is a procedure that adds greater definition to the chin. Mentoplasty is chin surgery that reduces the size of the chin. Chin augmentation may include the surgical reconstruction of the chin bone, or the use of small, synthetic implant materials that are biocompatible and similar in texture to the chin. There are many shapes, sizes and materials available to choose from, depending on the results desired. Those who have a severely weak chin, or a abnormally functioning jaw, will need to discuss the procedure with a highly qualified cosmetic surgeon to determine if chin surgery is right for them. Most procedures are conducted on patients with a normally functioning jaw.
During the procedure, a small incision will be made under the chin or inside the lower lip. The implant will be inserted into a small pocket or attached to the underlying bone or tissue. The procedure typically lasts about 30 minutes to one hour, unless other procedures are performed. Recovery times take about two weeks, with some initial swelling, bruising and tightness around the chin. If the surgery was performed through the mouth, patients will be limited to a soft or liquid diet for the first few days until after the gums have healed.
Chin augmentation improves the jawline, creates a stronger chin and improves the overall aesthetic appearance of the face.
